The groundswell of opposition to this bill caused the government to delay its introduction three times. But we need to keep it up. We need your help and participation to do that.
Vancouver Fair Copyright is not a formal organization. We have no budget, no employees, no salaries. We are simply a collection of concerned citizens helping each other to fight for fair copyright reform. Everything we do is a result of individuals deciding to make an effort. And every bit counts. We don't expect anyone to commit to more than they wish to. The effort you make is up to you. Whether you have the time to meet with an MP, write to a newspaper, or simply give a bit of advice on the mailing list, the participation of people like you is what keeps us going.
If you want to help but don't know where to start, here are some suggestions:
- We need to meet with MPs. Requesting a meeting is easy, and we will support you if you get one.
- An MP Candidate Survey is currently in the works. You can join the discussion here.
- We must contact the media. Letters to the editor, opinion pieces in local and student newspapers and so on make a big difference. If you need advice, ask on the mailing list.
- We need communications and PR specialists to craft our message. If you have these skills, please engage in our discussion on the mailing list, the wiki and/or the discussion forums.
- We value the perspective of concerned artists. This law will affect you most of all. You can help us reach other artists, and understand your perspective so that we keep it in mind. You may also be able to help us with PR materials.
- We need to contact groups. You may be a member of a group that would be likely to be concerned about this, whether it's because you're a student, an employee of a software of game company, or a member of a professional organization. This could be as simple as talking to people you know, putting them in touch with us, or as complex as forming a student club - whatever you feel comfortable with.
